All of the earlier versions had the plastic trim. Marineland discontinued it in favor of the more popular rimless design. The plastic trim actually has no strength value so it was easy for them to discontinue. I personally like the rimmed version better but don't have a choice unless I want to pay A LOT more money from glass cages or another smaller manufacturer.
