The only species I've had trouble with jumping are Odontodactylids. They are probably the fastest of all stomatopods. Small species like O. havanensis can reach speeds of up to 30 body lengths a second and can leap up to 4 to 5 inches out of the water. This can happen if somethings sppoks them. Mot commonly this happens if the lights are suddenly turned on or off. If you must leave a tank uncovered, I would recommend for odontodactylids having at least 5 inches free borad.
