I'm guessing the one I have now is a male, its pretty small and has not grown past 1.5" in 3 years? I'm not sure though. I added a smaller one a year ago and it was getting harassed and then disappeared. I have read that females are larger than the males and I would like to try that combo. It probably wouldn't work in the old tank where the little one is already established but figured I'd try it before they claim their territory in the new tank. Is that a bad idea?
