For what I under stand it is water turnover or GPH you want to look at more than air intake. While the amount of air is important you want the turn over rate to be correct for your tank. I try to get a skimmer rated at an over rated size for any tank I use and also try to match the skimmer flow to my sump flow. I am by no mean and expert on this and am confused on this as well but this is what I have come to understand. I would like to try an Atman 2500 on my SC150 to see if a larger pump would run the skimmer any better.
