Yeah, they are stressed just as much as the Pacific reefs. Lionfish aren't helping the matter for the time being. There is proven documentation that the native species are starting to consume the lionfish so it's only a matter of time until there is a balance that is similar to the pacific.
I went to Sea Rovers in March and saw actual video of a frigate bird scooping one out of the water and eating it. Paul Cater Deaton made a documentary on it called "Lionfish, The Beautiful Outlaw" that is definitely worth watching. He also spoke of Groupers, sharks, lobsters , etc all eating them as well.
I speared a couple last month, chopped them up and fed them to the spiny lobsters. Showing potential predators that they are edible is having an effect on finst generation as well as second generations.
