A "better" solution is something opaque or just spray paint the acrylic (any spray paint is totally safe once dried)..to keep the light from the fuge from growing algae,etc... in the skimmer body.. That is also going to be a problem with the close proximity...
This is why you guys are awesome. I would never have thought of algae growing in the skimmer.
