Bristle worms do not eat coral. I'm not sure who says they're "bad" but they can overpopulate in a tank that's overfed. Also, you don't want to touch them.

There are some worms that eat mollusks and other things you want to keep, but they look different from the true bristles like you've got. Bristle worms are good cleanup crew members. Just be careful about picking up rocks or corals and you should be fine.
