He (Tomato) has been a pretty good resident in my tank and was my first acquisition for this my latest reef. He's big and fat and has taken to attacking my hand whenever it's in the tank for an extended period of time. The problem is it generally startles me since I'm trying to concentrate on placing a coral or something like that. And he's biting nice and hard. This last time he was relentless so I ended up netting him and putting him in a bucket while I had my hand in the tank. I was very close to just taking him to the LFS for credit but I couldn't bring myself to do it! I think from now on I’ll probably have to take him out in order to work in there.

Next time you catch him just pull out all his teeth with a pair of tweasers. I would also recomend that you yell and him while you do it. That should fix him,,'
Nothing worse then an uppidy Clownfish!

Wow, that's pretty funny though I can understand your frustration. I'd just put his angry butt in a bucket while you do your work in the tank since this fish was your first resident. Good luck with w/e you choose.

No female. Just an RBTA. I was really frustrated but I think I have a working solution.

My female ocellaris won't attack me if I'm wearing a nitrile glove (one of the cheap disposable ones without powder). She'll bite it once and that's it.
If I don't have a glove on, she'll draw blood. She's taken a few rides out of the tank and on the floor while clamped on my hand. If you only have one clown, it's probably a female if it's been by itself for more than a couple months. |

I guess I have another cranky female since she's been the only Tomato in my tank for 6 years.

My maroon of about 5 years did the same.
I started wearing a shiny watch kinda by accident one day, and she bit that instead of me, became routine after a while to wear that watch. After a while she mellowed out, I figured her teeth had dulled!lol But I know what you mean about the surprise attacks while carefully placing fraglie corals, mine broke a few biting me, and also head butting them. And she drew blood many times.

They are truely evil. If I have gloves on my GBM just rams me. Funny she's the hardest fish for me to get rid of as I tear down my tanks. I've had her since 2001.

Sushi an option? : ) Seriously, I have a pair of perc clowns and I have found they are rather tolerant of me unless I keep going at it for an extended time. I mean think about it, we all don't mind the meter reader or the mail man coming to do their job. But, when the jobs over, let it be over, don't expect to hang around for coffee and doughnuts. Point is, maybe try a little activity at a time and let the poor lil dude have his peace. Attacking something is his way of saying, "Mine! Get out of my house!"...if I might be allowed to personify your clown...with an australian accent....though Im not sure why it's australian...You from australia per chance...maybe the clown is...Ah darn, now Im rambling...see, no fun when it just keeps going and going and...GL! ; )

We have blue ,yellow tail damsels in our 240 gal reef tank & my wife hates them so bad that she wants to flush them but can't catch them. And btw, I'm a clownfish breeder & I know about the suprise when one attacks.
