Bird of Paradise with some STN? Pics

I got this as a small frag. Its has been about one year. It is scary to see what is happening during the last week. Atleast I noticed it last week and it seems to be increasing. There is STN on the inside branches bostly where the branch originates. The tissue loss is only on the down stream side of the colony. There was some algae on the area with tissue loss. Could this be a flow issue? I have a MP40 at 75%. This and the return is the only source of flow. It is a 70 gallon tall 36x18x27. I have 5x39W T5. The coral is has always been 8 inches from the lights. What do you guys think? fragging time? I may also try to treat with chloramphenicol in separate tank. Could GFO cause this?

It could be a flow issue if the polyps in the center of the colony are not moving with the current. As long as the polyps are moving throughout the whole colony your good as far as flow goes. Have you had any alk swings? Too rapid a drop in nutrients from too much GFO at once may cause this as well.

No Alk swings but I seem to always have trouble keeping alk high. My Alk runs around 6 dkh.

I would think 6dkh could cause what your seeing. that would kill half my corals in my tank.

6dkh is low. If you could, bring it up slowly to to at least 7 to 8dkh over the coarse of a couple days. Good luck.

I am between 9-10. 8 is too close to the line so if my alk was to fall I wouldn't be below 8. 9-10 is my medium
