New maxima
Got my first clam. Did my research before purchase and some more after but still have a few questions or concerns. I have a t5 fixture, more details on lighting at bottom.
Just put the clam in yesterday and it seems to be gaping. Is this normal for just putting it in? It's not all the time just occasionally. Also, I was expecting there to be a little color difference but it was supposed to be a blue teardrop but it's brown... :-(. Is this due to lighting? Will the color come back? I currently have it on the sandbed due to just putting it in. I bought it from live aquaria so I'm assuming it was under halides. I'd like to be able to keep it on the sand but understand I should probably move it up. I put it on a flat piece of rubble. When I move it, should I pick it up from that piece that it should be attached to or should I just pick it up by its shell? Also, how do you know that it's attached? Just pick it up and see if it sticks??? My light is an aquaticlife t5 fixture. Six rows but twelve 36" bulbs. (6' 125g tank) bulbs are: blue+, purple+, GE6500, blue +, coral+, blue+ (from front to back, all ATI except GE) Any feedback would be great! I want this guy to be healthy! |

Thank you for the response! I'll try to get a picture uploaded but it will be tonight before I have a chance.
I've looked from all possible angles but it's just brown compared to the bright blue in the picture... I don't think this can be contributed to lighting but who knows. Do clams ever brown up like sps can? Thanks again! |

you write "I've looked from all possible angles but it's just brown compared to the bright blue in the picture... I don't think this can be contributed to lighting but who knows. Do clams ever brown up like sps can?"
however it can abso depend on light. and ladd is notorious for overcolorization. nevre cared about sps, so no answer on that.

That sucks to hear about LA/DD modifying pictures. Especially since they advertise wysiwyg. They were going to be my number one place to shop from. Guess vivid will be getting more business.

How can it be over colorization if there is no color there? So everyone thinks this is just the way the clam is??

What they are talking about is Photoshoping (or using another program) the pic until it has a hue of color that would sell. I can download an AP on my cell and change my hue on a dark brown (close to black) and gold clam and make it any hue of color I want.
Try it. Take a pic of your clam and with paint editor or program adjust the light and hue balance. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using Tapatalk 2 |

Man! I never put a picture up! Sorry! It is looking better. But, the color is still brown. I called LA and they said that the color should come back in about a week so we'll see

Just to play devil's advocate, but I work at an LFS and the above clam color is possible, as we just sold one that same color. Also, I recently bought a clam from DD and it looks EXACTLY like the picture.

So it's been about a week and I felt like I should move it up the rock work a little. I moved it about halfway up the rock. The way I have it sitting, I'm not sure if it's foot can attach to a surface. If it would, it would need to really stretch for it. Is this okay or should I move it to where it would be able to attach more easily?
Thanks! |
