Thanks moliken!! I was a little nervous getting <2" clams, but figure that I do enough broadcast feeding in the tank to keep them happily supplemented on phyto, oyster eggs, AA's, etc.

Clams showed up in great health and looked exactly like the pics on LA/DD, I'm very impressed! Not the best pics, working with a ghetto rigged top-down setup but will get more later this week.

Hey man, thanks for the compliments!! Haven't seen a pyram in at least 8-mo now, so that's good!! I have run into this weird battle with my maxi's though, every once in a while (varies from every week to every other month) they will start showing some pinched mantle, especially the smaller ones and in particular the vanuatu blue/black. A 30-min pH matched FW dip with strong turkey baster blastings every 5-mins cures em and they are good to go again. I think it may be spaghetti worms from the sand that irritate them as I almost always find one afterwards in the FW dip bucket. Been thinking that I may need to get them attached to a rock or something, but space is so limited.

At any rate, I am now a FIRM believer in FW dips as long as you do it at the first sign of trouble. I've had a 100% success rate *knocks on wood*. I think the trick is to temp match, pH match (using baking soda), and give a good strong blasting around the entire shell to get the FW soaked in after they clinch up tight.

Thanks!! Derasa grew far too quickly for a small tank, within months it took over the entire front of the tank. I sold it to a local reefer and picked up the small maxi's to replace it since they grow much slower. The crocea is still up top, now halfway buried under the ever-growing ORA green stylo.

Thanks for the comments!! I think you will love your derasa, they are beautiful, easy to keep, and fast growers! Good luck!

Unfortunately I've had my first clam casualty after 2-yrs of keeping them in this tank. It was stung by a coral then gutted by my CUC while I was out of town on a 2-day business trip. Unfortunately, it was the gem of my collection as a black & white maxima!

When I first got it:

And this evening:

Last shot of that beautiful mantle :

Plausible clam killers? My crocea that's been in the tank for 2-yrs just showed signs of PM after never a single issue over its span in the tank. I gave it an immediate FW dip (after my recent B&W maxima experience) and found these in the tank.

Sundial snails:

Astrea starfish:

Barnacles:

All were removed from clam shell. Any possible issues here?
