6085 Won't start

I bought the 6085 and also with the fake rock from BRS in early July this year and about a couple of weeks ago the pump has start up issue. I turn off/on the pump 3 times a day, 2 for feeding and one at night. Sometimes it can start but the other times it won't start.

I took it out and apart and placed it in vinegar in a bucket for a good clean although I don't see any dirt or deposit for such a short time use. I also don't see any physical damage on the propeller blade.

The strange thing was even in the bucket when I turned it on, sometimes it just didn't start. But if I reversed the power cord plug and then it was OK. I tried this on a power socket and also on an Neptune Apex's EB8, same thing happened. Then after few more times, it didn't start again!

What's wrong with it?

In general, synchronous pumps wil start clockwise or counterclockwise and on propeller pumps, their is only one direction which will create flow. This pump has a mechanical mechanism to correct the direction and somehow, this has been defeated, I would check the following.

1) The propeller has no breaks, the ends must come to a tip, a jagged end will defeat the stop as it will then clear the stop tabs. It sounds like this is already verified OK, but it is the main culprit.

2) The front housing has no breaks, you will see in the cross hatch that inside are 4 fin protrusions, this is what the prop hits if it spins backwards, if these are broken, they can be a cause, this is actually the rarest culprit except on pumps made in late 2008 (first models) on these the plastic was much thinner.

3) The prop and magnet must freely spin and slide back and forth on the metal shaft. It is possible for calcium deposits, strands of hair or threads or pieces of algae to snare the prop so it cannot move, the shaft is stationary and is an axle that the magnet and prop assembly move on. To work effectively it must be free to fly forward and hit the stops.

4) At some point the disk 6065.792 was lost or moved to the front of the propeller, this disk is a critical shim and must be under the magnet and located at the base of the shaft.

The propeller blades should have pointy tips, if they're broken off or chipped you should be able to see it.

Since my nano wavebox was not working this past weekend, so I finally removed this 6085 pump from the tank at the same time when I removed the nano wavebox.

Apparently #1 is the culprit.

Yes, but I would follow up with a phone call after a day or so. Tunze USA and Xenia are completely independent and I don't know the exact way they handle repairs and warranty.

Yes, that is correct, you would only need to cover the shipping to Canada, the part would be free. I could also send it to Bulk Reef Supply to be forwarded on. Shipping by Priority mail should be around $10. We would send the prop with magnet.
