Yellow Porcupine Puffer?

I have been wanting a puffer for awhile now. I was at my favorite LFS and saw this guy. He is no larger than a quarter right now. I have him in a 10g right now, he is eating like a pig, and very curious.

What I am wondering is if he will keep his yellow throughout his life. I have never seen a porcupine puffer in any colors other than tan/black.

These pictures really dont show his true colors. He is as vibrant as a healthy yellow tang.

Thanks!

If am not mistaken, it will turn to the normal tan/black as it matures. Some one correct me if I'm wrong. Cute little guy though

I've seen one, he was about 8-10", and a little more yellow than the one you have, so it is definitely possible he will keep that color.

From what I've seen and experienced they usually turn to a darker shade! However good luck on yours

Thanks for the replies!
If he stays yellow that would be awesome. If he turns tan, oh well its still the puff I wanted. I just cant wait until hes big enough to go into the 300g eel tank.

i know this thread is a few months old. just wondering how your little guy is doing. i have a yellow puffer and haven't found another one his color before his same size. mine is a hair under a foot long and more yellow than yours. i got him when he was 6" from a desperate situation where he was in a 125 half full of water and i spent quite a bit of money nursing him back to health but 2 years later he's my favorite fish.

Yellow Porcupine Puffer

I ordered a "yellow" Porcupine Puffer from Drs Foster/Smith LiveAquaria and he is about 3.5" long and is yellow. From what I understand from LiveAquaria, they are supposed to stay yellow, so I also hope this is the case. Either way, he is too cute

I've had mine for a month now and when I got him he was 3.5". He is now at least 4". I feed him and the rest of my fish twice daily. He is the only one that will accept food by hand.

Unfortunatly when I was in Hawaii for a couple of weeks he had died. I dont know if it was the caretaker, or something else. Very dissapointed
