Upgrading a biocube 29! and Noob questions :" \
So 1st question I found this kit
http://www.rapidled.com/biocube-29-c...it-kit-24-led/ any comments? I have not soldered anything since grade 10-11 electronics class >.< think someone with my low level experience could get that thing going? Are there better kits out there? Would that kit put out enough lighting for Sps? Are the 12 white 12 blue a good combination? Also i found http://www.ebay.com/itm/0PPM-Portabl...item19c5bbe8af Do these portable Ro/di units work? I don't own the place so i don't want to invest in a permanent unit. Our tap water is fine for drinking so it only needs to fill about 5gallons of water a week 2.5 for the water change and 2.5 for top offs. a quick question about the back refuge, I never put in the bio balls because i wanted to grow some macro algae in slot number 2. I was gonna build a plexi glass bracket for a light, but i have no idea what lights are safe to use with that amount of moisture? also can i add more water so its deeper? Are the min/max lines just so you can watch for evaporation? if so could i just use the top of the veiwing window, and have that much more water for the 2nd compartment refuge? anyhow hers a pic of the aqua scape, just added my 1st live critter a turbo snail ^^

Hmmm....do you know anyone who can solder for you? You could do it but the issue is if you have a short it will cost you more money. Email Rapid and ask if his solderless connectors will work with that kit and the LED's. Explain to him about your skills and it may work.
I have that kit and also one from Steve's LED's on our two Bio Cube 29's. Of the two Steve's is easier and comes pre-soldered across the board. In fact, his kit is also mounted. About the only thing you have to do is solder 4 wires and the rest is plug and play. Rapid's you mount the leds, then cut and tin some wire, then solder. I shorted 3 out with his kit and zero with Steve's. Steve's kit - I don't like the power supplies. They are crap. Overall, his kit offers a bit more blue to it as it should - he uses more royal blues than Rapid's. Rapid is split 50/50 cool white & royal blue. Rapid uses Cree, Steve's the philip's brand. The ebay kit you linked I have no idea.

Ignore the min and max lines. Theyre only there if you use the bioballs. You can fill the tanks back chambers all the way up. I do cause I don't use the bio balls. I use the intank media basket and will be running a refugium in there soon. I just mark where I fill my tank up so I know how high in the morning to top it off.

I'm liking the Steve's LEDs idea. Just starting to look into upgrading my BC29 lighting.
