DSB questions

Hi,

10 weeks ago I set up a DSB in my fuge. Sand is 6" high.

45% CaribSea Aragalive Bahamas Oolite
40% CaribSea Aragamax Sugar Size
15% real live sand

I sea some littel tunnels from critters in the upper part of the sand, but there are no bubbles until now.
Is this normal? How long does it take to start with the bubbles?

Are any further measures necessairy? Like injection of bacteria into the sand...

Edit: no comment....

To Reef Central

bubbles are normal, could be anything from CO2 to N and even O2 being released from the sand bed, nothing else is needed, in fact the best thing for it is to leave it alone.

How much deeper would the ocean be if it didn't have sponges?

The problem is, there are NO bubbles. Normally, there should ne nitrogen bubbles in the sand, showing that the denitrification process works.

I have a 12"x18"x6" DSB and I don't have any bubbles in my sandbed that I can see either.

Not sure what u mean by injecting bacteria into the sand. Either dose carbon (vodka, vinegar, prodibio) or bio pellets. Or let the sand mature.

The bubbles will come with time and you may never notice them, either way nothing else is needed, and the DSB will mature fine on it's own.
