I see the same "stuff" in some of my alkalinity samples. Hanna, what is going on here? This has happened to me in multiple batches of reagents. I am very meticulous in my testing and cleaning methods. I clean the vials and syringes with DI/RO water and make sure everything is clean and dry before use. Please tell me what is going on with this. Thanks

it's clear that Hanna have been reading and posting in this forum after you have posted your question but they have decided to ignor you. Even if they don't know the answer and are waiting for a reply from their tech department, a simple reply saying as much would be nice.
I think Bean has been giving them a hard time over this very issue. I myself am going back to salifert. Much easier and faster.

I asked Chemistry about it, they said they'd look into it but it's most likely contamination introduced after the bottle was opened, and they've never seen it before or since.
I don't usually post things like that until I have confirmation, as I know it's not going to be received well. If they say anything to contradict or confirm the above statement, I will be sure to let you know immediately. Thank you, Hanna USA |

I have seen in in multiple batches. I clean my curvettes and syringes very well. I use RO/DI water, very soft cloths and make sure everything is dry before use. I keep the lid closed very tightly on the reagent container. I believe this is coming from the reagent.

I bought 2 bottles at the same time, just opened the second one a couple of
days ago, same S**T. I don't have the cap off for more than 15 second. If they really don't know what it is, they would want one of us to send them a sample. I'm done with them. |

Great I just ordered one of these alkalinity testers. And what they are junk? Great another 50.00 down the drain.

I too have this in the reagent. doesn't seem to skew the results but it would be nice to know. Hanna's last post on this was 04/30. Over two months ago with no follow up. I have sold phosphate and Ca. And will return to salifert for Alk once the "contaminated" reagent is finished. I really think that Hanna had the chance to make a great product, but their QA and customer service has lots to be desired.

i can see it in the bottle floating around too !!...use a flashlight and put your reading glasses on...it's not hard to spot.....i have a feeling it's not contamination but some type of fungus or growth...i keep mine in the fridge...but it's still appears....

All these problems (also with the phosphorus checker). The inconsistent readings and particularly the lack of response.
I think at this moment, I'll pass as well.

My last batch (exp 7/12 #2234) was "contaminated" as well. I know I did not "contaminate" it. This makes (2) batches that I have seen the issue with. It is time to order new reagent, and I would like to know what steps have been taken to identify and resolve the issue. Thank you, Bill |

Same here, don't think I'll be going with Hanna anymore. Way too many issues with the contaminated reagent for ALK, the calcium checker is a joke. No matter how careful I am I get different results or the infamous 600. I have the Hanna PO4 HI 93713 photometer and it's been giving high readings lately. I get better more consistent results with API test kits.

I got it too on batches 3132 and 3186 and have another testing issue that I will start a new thread for.

I was set to buy. My LFS just started charging for water tests.
After watching the customer service, I see what I'll face should I have bought. I'm looking elsewhere. I wonder if this Hanna is related to THAT Barbera ? Hey Boo Boo ! |
