another whelk/nass ID ?? good, bad or just anoying?
hi there snail kings,
i need some help with ID here. These guys are freaking me out,, I introduced em by accident few months back. When I first spotted them, I just took them for innocent nassarius and bonus to my biodiversity but they multiply like hell, speeding around the tank and stealing meaty foods from other inverts... havent seen em kill anything jet... but.. should i be worried for my clams? some help with IDing these buggers would be greatly appreciated thx.

They're true Nassarius species, and shouldn't be a problem. Only the largest species are occasionally implicated in clam deaths (yours are one of the smaller species, probably a variant of N. pauperatus).

Don, thx. for taking time to clear this up. I was kinda hoping you would pop in and saved the day
![]() Talking about IDing these nass snails I noticed quite a few threads where people ask for help with IDs and so , but no answers with explained distinctive characteristics about good and bad ones.. Are there some easily spotted dead giveaways that I could use in future when/if need arises? thx, Mario
