Good source for Dosing Containers?

I'm looking for a good source for 3-5 gallon storage for calcium, magnesium, and alk dosing. Currently I have the following BRS storage containers but they are extremely flimsy and I don't trust them. I'd really like a jug like this that can save shelving space but I don't have to worry about the plastic splitting!

Any recommendations that you've used? It'll be sitting on bottom/top shelf of the following frag station I organized over the weekend

I have those! Got them at Wally world in the camping section for 10.00 a pop.

I used a couple of old orange juice jugs until I found some glass ones.

These might be of interest. They have fittings for the line and everything. I haven't used them personally, but may be getting one.

I bought these from Walmart for less than $6 each. Easy to see and durable. Each holds 1.25 gal which last me more than a month for my 92 gallon mixed reef tank.

Wow, thanks for all the responses! Was busy at work and after yesterday and never really made my way back around to RC

a.browning, those containers are really slick/clean looking but really need something bigger.

SimonSKL, that's about what I wanted but was looking for something in that form factor in a larger size just so I can make use of the space I have. It's amazing how you can dedicate a room for the reef and you find yourself running out of space quickly!

stevedola, I need to keep digging on USPlastics. I thought I saw what I wanted on there before but can't seem to find it now...

there are a ton of choices on their website...I know. But check out the jugs section. I just found a wicked little 5g container with a nice handle,screw top, and is square...perfect to tap with a john quest and have as a topoff container.

Nice thing about it is they sell containers that are made for potable water and also chems. Some of these wally world specials I would not put alk/calc in.

BTW I use those space saving containers *which i got from USplastics.com* and they are great!

but if youre looking for a 3-5 g container Id look here: LINKthey are stackable and definitely not flimsy. the carboys in general are excellent and not too expensive. There are a lot of neat jugs/containers on there just keep looking. The carboy is nice becuase you can tap it with a fitting like this or this, put a valve on the tubing line to be able to cut the drain, and run 1/4" tubing right to the doser and not have to worry about if the tube is hitting the bottom of the container.

It all depends on how much space you have. Those carboys could be put on a shelf and filled without even moving. Funnel and fill and youre done!

Steve, great spot on this! The carboy was what I was looking for...I just wanted the bigger edition (5 gallon). If I got these then I can ditch the pump bottles for manual adjustments from time to time because of the spigot they have.

I tend to agree with you on some of the other jugs mentioned. If they are not polyethylene I'd be worried about leaching into RO/DI water, let alone a heavily concentrated supplement.

Your statement surprised and worried me. Would you care to explain why you won't use the wally containers for alk/cal? Those are design for drinking water also.

I bought some of those blue jugs from wal mart and they leaked. I filled them up with RODI and put them on my shelf in the garage and the next morning there was a small puddle of water below them. Both of them leaked. I tried tightening the caps which didn't help. then I thought maybe I tightened them too much so I loosened them up a little and they still leaked. Ended up returning them.

if they are for drinking water then they should be fine for chems but thats why I look for it to be clearly stated on the label. As long as they state theyre safe...but if theyre a jug off the shelf at wally world with no statement then I would be concerned. They could leach chemicals back to the water or react with the chemicals inside the jug.

Do some research and youll see that theres certain bottles you shouldnt use for drinking water and storage(both chemicals and water).
