Thumbs down Man ! Am I ever sorry I bought a Neptune Apex

Bought the Jr. 3 months ago, plugged it into my router and bingo, destroyed my home network immediately. Ok, so I get my network back up and bingo, the Apex Jr. fry's the one router port it was plugged into.

I email Neptune systems with this problem and they not only call me a liar but go so far as to say their units work on every computer known to man... its all my fault in other words.

I send the Jr. back to them at my own cost and it comes back " repaired " free of charge. Ok, that's a plus. It hasn't blown out another router port since then and it took their latest firmware update.

However, the contraption simply will not work the same way twice on the simpliest profile. The VDM will do a Sunrise / Sunset but between that profile I have a ' Clouds1 and Clouds2". Hey, forget about it ! It refuses to run the Clouds1 profile everyday for a month now.

Forget the " Lightning " feature under the " Weather " profile. I read the forums and nobody seems to be able to get it to work. Huh. If I want a lightning storm I'll get the Firefly Lightning Simulator they sell for Halloween parties and attach a few halogens to my LED heat sink. ( The Firefly unit is 150 bucks and comes with a CD of thunder to play along with the lightning effect )

Anyway, for 150 bucks for the Junoir and another couple hundred bucks for the EB8 and VDM I'm real sorry I chose Neptune Systems when I went digital.

No reply's sought... I'm just venting and offering aquarium hobbiests my 2 cents worth.

Post your programming for the dimmable lighting. Is it DIY LED or AI Sol?

The lightning is intended for use with AI Sol - with DIY lighting, YMMV.

I had to set up the Tunze pumps last week for profiles and didn't have an issue. First I define the profile. Second I set a virtual outlet (that calls or executes the profile), then refer to the virtual outlet (to execute on time or condition) within the VarSpd outlet.

Sorry to hear about the router and bad experience. For me personally, with the full Apex, I can't tell you how peace of mind has returned and I am no longer wondering "is my tank ok" every time I pull into the drive way. I found some of the conditional programing chalenging but it was worth the time to figure it out.

I'm sorry, but seriously? Your program is perfect, the unit just "refuses" to run it? I don't think anybody is going to knock you for simply stating that you find the programming is not intuitive. That's why a lot of people come on here for help creating custom programming.

I have my apex for almost 3 years now and I don't know anything about computer it was difficult to understand in the beginning ,now I won't start any system it.
Even though it has few issues that may or may not programs fault.

I try DA that's so limited compare to apex and too hard to update or to use IMO
Also Venting out here might not be a good idea.

I know absolutely nothing about computers, I had a few bumps in the road with my programming but it that was all due to me just barely skimming the users manual like I think I know everything. Now its working perfectly and still fine tuning day by day. Not sure what happened with your router frying thats kinda odd. I don't have one bad thing to say about it except, what is neptune doing returning my calls on a sunday!? Paul is a nice guy, can't imagine being able to keep my composure from non tech guys like me calling with dumb questions all day when I first set it up .

I have some bad news for you Harry. If anything blew your router port, it was faulty wiring in your home. And the apex does not transfer power through a CAT5 network cable there genius.

I suspect you plugged the cable that looks like a USB into your computer and fried the apex.

I normally don't comment on these things, but this was about the most unintelligent post I have seen yet.......

Folks, there is absolutely no reason to resort to personal attacks here.

I have to agree that a network port won't kill a router. It puts out such a low voltage. Maybe something else happened at the same time. We tend to put alot of current though our houses when it comes to our tanks. Best of luck. and FWIW I love my apex

WOW" sorry to hear that your apex fried your router port.
I have had my apex for a little over 2 years and it has worked fine from day one.
I simply love it!
