Loud drain hose to sump
I have a 55g that drains to my 75g sump. The drain is quiet but the water re entering my sump is loud and constantly bubbles. I would like to get it more quiet. I used a filter sock for awhile but seeing as the 55g is the refugium I heard this was bad because pods would not go to the tank.
Any help or ideas on how to make it quet without a filter sock. My display tank and frag tank both enter into the same sump with no bubbles. Thanks. |

You can always extend the pvc down into the water, this will solve the sound issue. I think bubbles are unavoidable though, but this should at least reduce them as well.

Not clear on exactly what your set up is - 55 gal drains to 75 gal sump, but the 55gal is your refugium? Is the noise from the water that drains from the DT to the sump, or water that is being recycled somehow in the sump?
Extending the PVC down to the water should help like ajcanale said. do you have baffles to make a bubble trap in your sump?

The sound comes from the hose of the 55g tank draining into the sump.
The hose is already extended all the way down into the tank, it is actually touching the bottom. The air is making large bubbles that make noise and break and splash the surface, not the little quiet bubbles like my other drains. |
