6105 stream judders with 24v but fine on 18v?

I ordered the wide flow housing and 24v jumpers for my 105s but one of them keeps knocking and sticking. Watching it you can see the impellor jumping backwards and forwards along the shaft. It was fine before the upgrade but I took it apart and cleaned it anyway. It is intermittent and seems particularly bad on startup but since they're on a 7096 that's quite often. What seems to happen is that every 3rd or 4th startup it will judder and sometimes recover and sometimes not.

I left it for a while but the behaviour has continued so I have had to swap out the 24v jumper for the original 18v - this has fixed the behaviour. Could you advise what I could do to be able to use the 24v jumper on that pump (the other one is fine)?

These were the parts I ordered:
26205.130 Propeller housing
26101.24224 V jumper for 6101.240
Both power supplies are the 6101.240.

Thanks,

Daniel

Daniel,

Check that the magnet is not stuck to the metal shaft by calcium, it should be possible to remove it from the shaft and it should be able to spin freely on the shaft which does not move. What you describe sounds like that at 24V with the drive unit jammed, it is causing an overload shut down, at 18V you use less power and are just below this threshold and it is dragging the shaft in the blue bushings. It may also be the power supplies are just tired, they typically last 3-4 years and are likely at least 2 years old since by 02/10 all 6105's shipped with the newer 6105.240 power supply.

Hi Roger,

Unfortunately the pump now won't work at all even on 18v. I soaked it all again in a vinegar solution overnight and visually it's spotless and the impellor spun freely on the shaft. As I have 6 of these pumps I then swapped out the following from a working pump:
jumper
power supply
shroud
impellor
shaft
and combinations of the above.

Even with all components from a working pump except the motor I can't get it to start at all on 18v (or 24v) . Perhaps the motor was on it's way out and having it briefly on 24v pushed it over the edge. Any suggestions or do you think my pump has died?

Thanks,

Daniel

Given all the tests you have done and what you describe, I think we can conclusively say the motor has died. I would contact Tunze UK if it is less than 2 years old for warranty. Even if it is more than 2 years old, it is worth contacting them.
