55G, 4 Ft, 1 MP40 or 2 MP10's

Hi,

I was hoping for some insight, would y'all suggest running two MP10s or one Mp40 on a 4ft 55 gallon tank. I like the idea of having two different pumps to vary the flow a bit, but would they offer enough flow across the 4 foot tank?

One mp40 would do ok but 2 mp10's would be perfect to alternate flow. What do you plan on stocking? Sps, lps, softies?

Currrently it's mainly LPS, but with the new vortechs I'll probably be getting into SPS, do you think it will be okay with the two MP10s?

Id go with 2 10s. My mp40 on a 3ft. Tank does not give me enough fow on the other side (ran at 60%) unless I turn it up but then its too powerful on the one side

Okay, I'll be going with the two 10s then, I like the idea of more pumps to control the flow. Thank y'all for the help!

Here's a 3' tank with 2 x mp10's, running 100% in TSM:

I love the alternating dual flows, rather than just 1 big one. Helps you place the second one around rocks etc so you don't miss a spot.

I'm setting up a 50 gal 48x15x17. Would 2 MP40's be too much? I would probably never get them over 50% I assume but some tell me I'll have too much flow. I already have the pumps and am trying to set lighting and flow for a 90 or 120 when I upgrade.

That sounds like it will be a lot of flow, but, if you keep them on their lowest settings than i doubt it will be too bad. If you have them both at the highest settings however, you'll definitely have some hurricane conditions . If your running them on ultra low settings i don't think it will be to much of a problem. Hopefully someone will with more experience will chime in and give you a firmer answer.
