Usually that is so but I have seen them spawning and they don't know that, the larger one here is the male.

Mine loves to wiggle in to my fingers and then bite inbetween them while I am trying to scrap the glass. She can be a mean little occy but would not have it any other way GF loves watching them swim together and do the little dance. But man it really can hurt when she grabs the right piece of meat.

I've never heard of that before, but clownfish are good at confounding expectations.

This thread is one of the funniest things I have read in quite a while
![]() My True Perc pair used to nip a bit at me until I taught them that the hand was to be feared! lol After chasing them around for a little bit, they never did it again

I have two small black and white ocellaris clowns and they will give me "kisses" if it is just the tip of my finger. If my whole hand or arm is in the tank they swim away.
My female perc (not paired) will grab on and yank, so no hands in her tank. |

i got a pair of fancy occy in my solana and they both go after me in synchronized attacks. they are aweful.
my worse offenders are my breeding darwin pair. the female will actually jump out of the water and try to bite me. i removes the screen and was looking down over the tank to see something in the tank, and she jumped and bit me on the cheek. got saltwater in my eyes, i hit my head on the shelf above the tank and i was bleeding a little. then i stood around doumbfounded thinking did that just really happen? she used to jump out at my hand but a few times i had to pick her off the floor and she mellowed. she wont jump, but now waits for me to put my hand in the water. evil queens i tell ya. i had a blue stripe pair that the female was 6" easy and she actually had teeth. i always was super careful putting ym hands in the tank with them. she could reove patches of skin i bet! a way to keep he clowns at bay for me is that i will put in a net in the tank and swoosh it around and keep it close to my hand or whatever i am doing. usually works at distracting them. |

When I got my little pair the female, named Crusty (percula), would love to suprize and bite me. After a while, say a year or so, she decided to 'tollerate' me working on the tank and now doesn't bother me. She learned NOT to bite the hand that feeds her.
I've had her about a decade now. She mellowed with age. |

My 15+ yo GSM gets offended when I use the magnetic scrubber and she does all out attacks on it LOL. She use to just bite the glass when trying to express herself so I guess it's a slight improvement.
She will remind me to feed her by flicking water out of the tank at me if I try to leave the room with her brine shrimp thawed. She's never bitten me though.
