Also, they don't eat well at first. If by chance, you can get one local, that is established, it's barely different than any other wrasse. Especially the macropharyngodon bipartitus, they are known to be the easiest of the leopards, which is one I'd be looking for.
Somewhat true. They're poor shippers indeed, but one of the most stressful things on a leopard is a system transition. Even if you find one that's in good health and eating (and that's the ONLY way you should consider purchasing one), that may change once you bring them home and place it in a new environment. However, some species in the genus are less susceptible to this, M. bipartitus being the most notable. However, once (or if, depending on the species) you get them past the transitional period and wean them back onto prepared foods, it's far most likely they'll thrive in your system. But, any stress factors during this period, and you're doomed.

Expert only, yes; to a degree. But knowing what you're getting into, starting with one of the more "hardy" species of the genera, and purchasing one locally that's eating and in good health, the odds are in your favor.

I think the OP is aware of the challenge and what it takes.

M. geoffroy (Potter's) are THE MOST difficult of all leopards. The odds are against you no matter what. Expert only most definitely; not for the inexperienced leopard hand.
FWIW, M. choati isn't far behind in terms of difficulty.

Here is my potters. Got him from AA. I lost one before this one in QT due to a bit of ammonia. They seem to be very sensative to it. This one was also tough to get thru QT. I would not recommend this fish to most. I think having a large tank with lots of live rock to hunt on is very important.

A very nice (young) male you have there, Ryan. Males are not frequently seen in the trade, as they fare worse.

QT'ing leopards is a whole 'nother topic, and one full of debate.

Ya, I did not want to QT him nor the Idol I had but if you dont QT 100% of the fish you might as well not bother QTing any of them IMO.

This was mine. Every time I find one at AA they never look healthy.
