Is it new? It takes a few weeks to quiet down as slime covers tube, etc. If not new, you could reduce flow a little. Sorry to hear of this problem, since I want to get a 70 also.

All the elos systems use the same basic design, so as Mr. Reef stated, occasionally some will have a some noise as the drain hose slimes up. I have heard of some who cut the flexible drain hose too short causing a longer break. It is best to have a little curve in the drain tube to reduce the break in period. Hope this helps.

Mine still got a little bit of draining noise but not loud enough to bother me. I do hope that it goes away though.

The split angle-cut flow restrictor ring does a decent job of silencing the overflow, but the return pump needs to be throttled back to rebalance the system. I'm afraid the flow rate would be too low if I totally silenced my overflow, but any flow restriction should help somewhat. IME throttling the flow only a little bit forces the water into an area of the pipe that doesn't yet have a slime layer built up, resulting in some additional noise for a while.

Never did for me, and my Elos 70 is about 8 months old. No slime in the world shut it up. (And I have plenty of bend on the flexible drain tube.

What worked best for me, which I picked up in some forum or other, was to cut an old credit card into a triangle, and tape it over the overflow drain hole (point down). That restricted the drain enough to quiet the noise somewhat without affecting the flow from the return. The water level rose to about an inch above the Elos squiggle when I want it to be RIGHT on the squiggle, but that's just my OCD side shining through.

When I use the split piece I only notice an improvement when the longest length of the angle piece is horizontal and at the bottom. Is it all right to run like this or am I getting close to closing off the overflow?

GQuinn, in that position the restrictor cuts off quite a bit of flow. Not necessarily a problem, but you might want to open it up slowly as the drain slimes up.

What is the "The split angle-cut flow restrictor ring"? I don't believe I have one, on my new Midi. Hey Elos, this is why proper instructions would be a nice touch.

Since there are some questions on here regarding the split ring, here is a photo of the object in question:

...and here is where it goes (angled side in):

Just remove the top and front covers of the overflow (current model--I think the older Elos tanks have a completely different overflow design) and insert the angled side in, with the short/split side facing downward. Then simply twist the restrictor slowly until you have your desired flow.

I just tried this on my Elos 70 and it seems to work pretty good (I liked this better than the split tube because it does not raise my water level as high as the split tube). My water level is slightly higher (1/16 inch) than the Elos swoosh

never seen one

I have 3 Elos tanks, including a brand new one, and have never seen one of these, in person or in instructions.

I was having a micro-bubble issue and after talking to Jesse through e-mail(***on a Saturday!! ), turn out my issue may be coming from not using a filtersock after my skimmer. He said that the flow restrictor would not have helped in my case.
