DIY kit suggestions
I am setting up a new 60x24x24 mixed reef, SPS dominated.
What would you recommend for balanced growth and color? I know that's vague but I've been reading about LEDs for hours and just keep getting more confused. I've always used T5s before... Thanks! |

Most go with our Phoenix Kits. As reefers we put together the best LEDs and respected Bins to obtain optimal growth and looks. These are dimmable, solderless and include everything except a fan and housing. Two Phoenix 45s on a 24" heatsink would work quite well. If you have Clams on the sand bed the 55 would work better as it would be a direct replacement for a 400 watt MH http://reefledlights.com/shop/catego.../phoenix-kits/ http://reefledlights.com/how-to-diy-led/ Bill

Two 24" lights over a 60" tank? Is that enough?

Thanks!
Question - why do you recommend this over the Premium Cree kits? Soldering is not a problem, BTW. I do like the drilled / tapped sinks. That would make swapping leds around much easier. |

The Phoenix kit mixes in some regular blues to kick out the spectrum curve a touch and automatically includes the hyperon drivers. The Drilled and tapped makes a BIG difference in build time and quality. You can do two solderless builds in the time it takes to do one soldered build. Plus with the D&Tapped if you ever decide to add additional LEDs the spots are all laid out for your convenience.
