Since I am a vendor here me posting pics of my "favorites" or otherwise is not allowed because it would be viewed as promotional. However, my favorite was the bicolor one we had a while back, that was really crazy, one side was blue and the other a completely diffent color. I had seen a photo of one but never actually saw one myself and then we got that one and proved it was real.

No problem my friend. Just wanted to set things straight, still not sure where it came from. Anyway, now back to some pretty clam pics!

My new clam. What is it?

I just bought this beauty today. The clerk at the LFS said they had taken it on trade and wasn't for certain what type of clam it is. I would be grateful if someone was able to identify it for me as well as what characteristics the clam has that makes you believe it is what you say it is. Thank you!

Looks like a Derasa to me.. I counted 5 ribs on the side of the shell, no scutes, and distinct tenticles on the incurrent siphon. It does look similar to a small Gigas with the blue dots on the mantle, but Gigas clams have smooth incurrent siphons. HTH

Thanks, maybe some day..

This system was started in a 14g Aquapod that was up for about 1.5 yrs. I transferred the contents of this 14g to this 34g in Oct '12. My avatar pic is from the 14g.

I moved 4 months ago and removed the sand bed (to move the tank) and never put it back in, so it is now BB.

Fourth, this is not even US Customs concern. I kind of know this for a fact. If any agency in the US would do this it would be Fish and Wildlife.

You are absolutely OFF BASE sir! After sequencing the DNA of EVERY clam imported, they insert a small GPS tracking device beneath the mantle. That way they can't track potential aquariums violating import regulations.
A crack team of highly trained, ex-special forces Custom Agents, know as the CPU (Clam Protection Unit) are tasked with performing random stings on marked premises containing clams. These professionals keep our country safe, as well as the oceans we love.

God bless them.
