fragging hawkins

My colony is getting bigger then I want right now due to my downsizing tanks. The last time I clipped a couple branches off they bleached out within a couple days. Is there a way to keep this from happening? I don't want to keep doing it if there's a chance of killing the frags or the colony.

No good advise? Maybe I should put in an area and just let it grow out.

When I frag mine, I let the pieces recuperate for a few days before attaching them to anything. I keep them in the same area as the mother colony, and they do well.
