How to remove Alkalinity from water
I have been reading around about "Boiling the water" removes alkalinity from the water, now i am quite uneducated about bicarbonate and carbonate, however i do know reef and other marine plants or corals perse, use bicarbonate to produce skeletal structure using the bicarbonate alkaline. But correct if me im wrong. My problem is after using my sechem alkalinity test kit, i found that the alkalinity was way to high. So right now i have been boiling about 15 gallons, and will continue to do so tomorrow if this works, as it has been an all day process. But my primary question is does "BOILING WATER" actually remove some of the carbonate alkaline? Or will i have to go out and buy sodium chloride to add to the boiling water so ions can do the work. But again my primary question is "Does boiling water remove carbonate alkalinity"?
Any help would be magnifantastical :P Last edited by wakrein; 08/17/2012 at 04:06 AM. |

What are you considering too high? Have you dosed anything to make it higher than normal? If so, time and a few water changes should bring it back down.
FWI, you may try posting these questions in the reef chemistry section. You will get a better response when posted in the proper place.
