I’m envious of all the space you have to work with. It’s a first-class build.
You are currently tackling the one task I fear the most, namely the rockwork. I have followed chingchai build closely and have taken inspiration from his tank & rockwork as well and will soon be forced to undertake, at least for me the dreaded aquascaping task.
Can’t wait to see more

Thanks captngreg, aquascaping is often times over done. The rock stack is only as good as the rock you use. As long as you get good rock, and plan grow out space you will do a great job.

The irrigated rock work is a great idea Aqua Dave. Thanks for sharing your steps to making it work. How long did you spend tying rocks to plastic pipe that day? ha.

I was tying knots for a good 12 hours..... to the point that my back was killing me and my fingers were sore and covered with epoxy. Also being in a tank that size and having no air conditioning is like working in a steam room...

Wow, love the aquascape and am very impressed with the water flow coming from the inside out of the rock work. What a great idea. Should keep crap out and water flow over the live rock like that should really make for great filtration.

Awesome job on the aquascaping! The video from above really shows off the depth and arrangement of the rocks.

Ahh i see, that looked like a rotary compressor, hard to tell scale from pics i guess.
Beautiful tank and setup, one of the very best on here for sure.

Thanks for the compliments! The flow coming out from within the rocks seemed like the best way to go for such a large tank. One of the aquarium builds that i got the idea from was Oregon reef if anyone remembers that monster build. You can check it out on oregon reef . com

We decided on the 1000 watt MH because we didn't want any limitations on what or where we put coral or other inverts in the aquarium. The spread from each reflector is 6'-6' on those bad boys. The owner wants Ritteri and Gigantae anemones but also wants lots of SPS on the top of the rock stacks. The hope is that they will be comfortable at lower depths with this lighting.

The depth of the aquascape was the most important factor to me. If there is no depth to it you don't really have any options for coral placement and you loose the natural look.

Another trick that some people use is the rule of 2/3 or you want the focal point to be at the 2/3 point from one of the ends of the aquarium and 2/3 point from the bottom to the top. I try to use this when possible on all aquascaping including freshwater

Very nice ! I used rods epoxy and poleygem , think that is wrong spelling . I just wanted to tell you my skimmer went nuts for a week to the point where you think something is really wrong . If this does happen just let it run and over flow back in to sump or you will be changing or adding tons of water

I was wondering who you had make the tank? I'm in San Antonio and have been thinking of up sizing from my 180 and really like the double sided bow. I am kind of impartial to glass over acrylic do you know if they work in both?

It depends on the size of the aquarium as far as using glass or acrylic goes. On this build there was not any US aquarium builders that could do it in glass. I think the largest you can get a double bow in glass would be 8 ft in length. I would reccomend Planet Aquariums out of Dallas for a glass tank. Armando, the owner, worked for oceanic and deep sea aquatics as their custom builder for years before starting his company. He is the best quality for the price.
