Amphipods and copepods

Hi guys,

I placed an order for a variety of livestock (looks like I have to sort out a credit card issue first, I think our billing address hasn't been changed since we moved).

Anyways, the order contained a few bags of amphipods and copepods for a mandarin I also ordered. I was looking for some tips to propagate these myself to keep him happy. I don't have a refugium but I was hoping to do it outside the aquarium, like in a 5 gallon bucket or similar. What should I feed these guys, phyto (like the Brightwell S), or just fish food? Thanks, I'm looking forward to getting the order!

Thanks!

Hi Fishbulb2 - Just saw this post many apologies!!

I have found the best thing to do - is to add them pretty aggressively to your tank for a month.

Try these steps:

1. Add the Copepods and Amphipods to the tank with the tank lights out and minimal house lighting on so they have an opportunity to hide in the rock before a hungry mouth has them for dinner!!

2. Check your tank before adding them with a flashlight covered with a red balloon trick with lights out to establish your base line pod population

3. Then check once a week to mark the change in population. This way you can determine how many / how often you need to refresh the population.

Hope that helps - many apologies for the delay in response!! Enjoy!!
