We are not very lucky to get gigs so healthy in the midwest, wish we had a shop that specialize in it, it seems like they suffer too much from the shipping from the midwest. Any other suggestions in keeping these beautiful inverts?

wish I had 2. Are there drawbacks to having 2 in the same tank? I have read that keeping them with RBTA will cause the death of one, the other or both due to chemical warfare...what about 2 Gigs?

from what I understand you can keep 2 in the same tank you just have to make sure that you do not add 1 that has some kind of bacterial infection or that has been quarantined for at least 3 to 4 weeks. if you have 1 that possibly does have some type of infection, itcan spread to your already established anemone and any and potentially cause death of both.

Anemones in the same species will not have any problem with touching each other. On need to be careful in introducing new anemone into a close system. make sure that they are well. They seem to be susceptible to disease introduce by sick anemone. Like fish, quarantine is important.
I think the jury is still out on chemical warfare. I have not experience this in my close system. They will sting each other if different species come in contact most (some of the time) of the time but not all the time.

I got this carpet anemone and the pair of clowns about 2 weeks ago. They're still recovering from being picked on by the hippo when I first added them.

Thought I almost lost my gigantea. I was holding a bubble tip anemone for my sister. Went out of town for conference for a few days - when I came back the bubble tip melted. On the next day the gigantea went into the deflating mode. And the next day, the anemone was also deflated when I came back in the evening. So I got a half gallon bucket, threw in some cefoxitin - probably 200g. Placed an air bubbler for about 4 hours. The anemone has not deflated since. This was about 5 days ago.

Anyone have a reliable site to purchase one of these amazing creatures? I have been watching the divers den like a hawk and never see any.. Any other reliable options?

I can tell you with some certainty that there isn't a reliable website/internet store to pick one up. Even those few who claim that they quarantine their gigs can't guarantee that they'll make it through the shipping process. I think this is why LA doesn't sell gigs often. Of course, getting one from a local reefer is the best bet -- the only other way to get one is to ask your LFS to order one for you. However, keep in mind that all of the gigs I've seen at my LFS were sick. Make sure that you know all of the characteristics of a sick gig. Though tempting to pick up a sick one and try to bring it back, the track record for success is literally 0% of those people who posted on RC.

I was told haddoni, either way it was beautiful and flourished in my tanks. As it grew it lost some green. It might be, but it was labeled saddle anemone, which refers to a haddoni I believe.

What lighting have you got and what sort of flow?
Haddoni and Gigantea require different conditions |
