That's an "m" at the end not "rn". It is a none-too-subtle reference to anal-retentive worriers.

Well, we got it in place. I had six guys (including myself)...
As I said earlier, I could not find any suction cups which would be suitable. However, we did have lots of straps. We picked up the pallet and put the tank into the back of a pickup, then backed it up to my back deck. The first plan was to bring it in the front, but that would not logistically work. I had to pop out one patio door entirely (into the sun room) however, the patio door into the house was about an inch wider than the tank. We inched the tank off the pallet onto furniture dollies, and wheeled it in from there. There were two door thresholds which needed to be conquered, but we were able to lift and shuffle the dollies accordingly. The vertical lift onto the stand (3 feet up) was a bit hard, and my Styrofoam got a bit messed up, but I should be able to shimmy it square and fix the foam under padding. All in all, we were drinking beer after about an hour Thanks all for your help!!! |

Got a link? Never know when a 200lb suction cup will come in handy.

Not sure if I can post that link (they're not a RC sponsor - it's been a while; is that still a rule?) If you go to harbor freights website the ones I used are called "dual cup suction lifter" and provide a solid handle and are red in color. The website shows 125 lbs per each one but the box states 200 lbs - it's harbor freight so I used four of these and we didn't really use them as the sole means of lifting the tank, but a good way of slight lifts and maneuvering the tank from the garage through the house and into the stand.
I did make sure to clean both the tank and the rubber suction cups thoroughly to ensure they would work well - you have to be careful not to get dust or other dirt on these surfaces or they will slip off. |

For those Canadians who are facing similar challenges, you can purchase 220lb suction cups from your local Princess Auto location (or from their online site if they don't have a store close by).

Looks good so far. That couch is facing the wrong way, of course, and will have to be moved. There won't be much need for the TV once the tank is up and running. You'll probably end up moving that out, as well.

It took me, my father-in-law, 2 friends, a dolly and beer to get my 10 foot tank in through my cellar doors into my basement. There was a lot of swearing going on but hey it was worth it! My tank is acrylic by the way so I could only imagine how heavy this thing would have been if it was glass.

Reviving an old thread here, has anyone used those Harbor Freight dual suction cups rated for 125 lbs? I am wondering if 4 sets of those for 4 guys, is enough to move my 500lb dry 180g glass tank?
Math wise it works and I've read here ppl using them, but most use them with a dolly. How about with no dolly and going 25 feet, 5 stairs up into a house? Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk

No way Up stairs
I would consider no more than 50lbs per person (unless you've gotten pro lifters) going upstairs. You need 10 guys and I don't think there's enough room around stairs to pick up that tank with that many people. It's not the suction cups, it's the people power (and maneuvering space) that you need more of. I think you need a "sled" and ropes or something more substantial ?

I'm talking 5 total stairs at the outside of the front door. Space is not going to be an issue for the stairs.
Im more wondering about the strength of the suction cups and its ability to stay attached to the sides of the tank, for a total of 1 continuous minute. Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk

I used 4 sets of this harbor freight to bring in my 36" cube/ 24" high w /3/4"glass (open top no bracing). Probably 3-400 lbs. make sure the glass and cups are clean (I use isopropyl alcohol).

Good question - we used a dolly most of the way and only used the cups to get through a doorway (up/over) and then onto the stand.
I did however use two of these cup handles to jack up one side of the empty tank while running cords inderneath. Literally used a car jack and rigged a few pieces of wood and it held for a few minutes. . |

Are you opposed to the electric lift because of costs or can't get one?
I have a 8ft 350 gallon and it had to go up 3 steps around a corner to get in the house. It was sooooo much easier to have two electric lifts. One at the bottom of the stairs and one at the top so you could just slide it horizontally instead of lifting the tank at all. |

You have to use suction cups that have a suction indicator. Cheap ones are a no no. They fail witghout warning. The kind you want use a little manual pump button that sucks out the air and if they are failing it shows a red line before it lets go. Gives you time to put the tank down.
