My carpentry skills are "0" lol. Well maybe "1" now that I've built that stand, I just saw a bunch of videos on YouTube to get ideas. Winged it the rest of the way

I second the no 2x4 option. I planned it out with 2x4's and it is a super tight fit for any reasonable size sump and space inside the stand, if you're doing an enclosed stand.

It depends in what your running, I plan on running an AIO so the cabinet will be for controls ATO.

So I just received the t-slot aluminum for the stand. It went together really quickly. Maybe this will help...

I bought the Marineland Corner overflow rimless. Also bought the stand that gave me a lifetime warranty but I am afraid to use it. the front to back sits about even but it seems left to right it sits right on the seams of glass not much wiggle room. Don't have a photo hosting to share the pictures here. I might just go DIY so many people tell me the Marineland stands are junk.

Order some 2020 extrusion from http://us.misumi-ec.com/ They will cut them to your exact measurements. The parts screw together and it is perfectly square. You can get the hardware from http://www.mrmetric.com/ I ordered mine extrusion from 2020.net but they are more expensive I believe. You will also want some 1/4" foam for the tank to sit on. I used the stuff made for aquariums.

I have a 120 gallon tank. I built mine out of steel and faced the sides with wood.

I bought a Cadlights 60g cube system. The stand is made of 1/2" hardwood ply with what look like 1.5/2.5" 'studs' in each corner. I'd be willing to bet that they were used more for attaching the sides with minimal visual impact (screw holes, etc), than for structural purposes.

My stand for my 120g uses plywood for the structural support as well. It might have some 1x2s in the mix, but 3/4" ply holds up the weight. There used to be a picture running around her showing the strength of plywood stands. A guy built one for a really big tank (200-300g) and proved its strength by dropping a load of bricks on it and then laying on top of it all. The enclosure I built to house my ATO bucket has 2 walls made of 1/2" plywood that the top rests on. I can stand on it to work in the tank with no issues, so long as I don't side-load it. It holds 220lbs with no issue. So long as you prevent side-to-side motion, plywood will do just fine.

Current Tank Info: Took everything down except my 14gallon biocube. However, I do have a 680 gallon wood w/glass viewing window on the drawing board. :-)
