You can try a floating scrubber mat.

I did that in my center for a while. The trick is to keep the horizontal may at the surface of just below so that it catches the air/water interface. If it moves in and out of the flow, that would best.

I did that by adding a pulsed powerhead to splash the surface. You can stretch the sheet and position it with small PVC pipe and zip ties... very DIY but should work.

Is the 20 gallon your sump? Here is my sump, in a cluttered fish room, with a water fall ATS.

If the chamber is submerged, you can do an upflow. If the chamber is falling water, then you can do a waterfall.

If I was feeding 2 cubes (plus a pinch of flakes) and didn't want to do water changes (but had a skimmer and filter socks), would a screen of 40 square inches be sufficient? (along with the correct LEDS)?

should be. You could do 24-30 sq in if lit on both sides.

Hi Everyone,

I've never tried a scrubber before (always used skimmers), but decided to order a Drop 1.4 for my 75g tank this week. I've been fighting hair and bubble algae. The hope is that this would help. Noise is a big concern since this will be in the living room. Thus, I'm very concerned about the air pump. What is the minimum air flow that I should shoot for the get good results from the scrubber. I have plenty of flow meters. And can anyone give me a recommendation for the quietest air pump that will achieve that? If you use lower air flow rates, will you really see a huge drop off in performance?

thanks,
FB

Dont use whisper (air pumps tend to be super loud)...
I dont own the syncra silent but from what i hear it is the most quiet.

It got edited by a mod. Had a variation of the "s" word in the post above mine that apparently was not caught by the swear filter

Just pulled 1cup of algae from my scrubber from 17 days. Mostly dark green but one purplish patch from the screen. It was weird, the algae peeled off the screen for the most part like a sheet of paper?
And ideas on why IMG_0025.jpg

Because the roots died and let go.

IIRC you're running the LEDs about 9 hours/day? You don't really want to go much more than 14 days for the growth period, so going 17 could mean more detachment.

With that growth now, you can probably increase the photoperiod a bit. Remind me, what are you N & P readings, tank conditions, etc? Seems like it's time to start pushing it more now that you definitely have a mature screen. It might even be time to increase the intensity but let's not go there quite yet

Nice, so are you cycling the light though the whole day on that schedule? Or just on the off hours of you DT lights?

Horace,

If I may ask, where did you purchase these lights?

Thanks!
