Dosing Alk to 8 has no impact on your fish.
Since Alk and Ph are interrelated, if your Alk is 5, what's your PH?
Theoretically, it should also be quite low....is it?
Ca1ore is right that calcium, mg, and Alk should not led to fish death. that being said, I estimated your dosing may have been 6-7 times normal.
If your current fish have developed an immunity to some diease, then at some point you may want to add a fish....but QT first, get feeding well....maybe a royal gramma....but it's your tank.
Yeah. I've read all the suggestions and have been listening. Going to add a fish in a couple weeks.

Maybe a Royal Gamma.

Thanks again to everyone's input.

Hopefully you can QT him for a couple of weeks, observe, feed, and medicate if required.
Good luck, keep us posted on your success...

They are schooling fish in the ocean but don't like each other in the reef tank. The dominant will survive

I can't see 2 part causing any kind of harm to fish unless your are seriously overdosing and causing a massive ph spike. If your alk was too low, your fish could have trouble keeping a healthy slime coat but that doesn't seem to be the issue.

As far as acclimating goes, if you have a qt you should make the salinity the same as the water that they come in(live Aquaria and most others are 1.019... atleast in my experiences) and float them to temp acclimate. Then you can open the bag and put them in the tank so they aren't stewing in the most likely ammonia filled water. I'll usually put a couple cups of water in the bag as a quick acclimation then put them in the qt. Once they're near the end of qt let evaporation do it's work to raise the salinity.

The dose of AlK was approximately 7 times the reccommend for the tank size, almost 1ml per litre, you can only go so far. Years ago, I made a grave error in adding Alk, almost 5 times reccommended, in 12 hours, leathers laid down, all others shrunk, fish appeared to be stressed out, breathing was labored.....in a panic....I did 10, 10% water changes 2 hours apart.....in 12 hours all things returned to normal. While it may have not killed the fish, it would have stressed them out and would have to be corrected in the short term.
Some believe it was a diease that still remains, but the original fish are immune.
That is quite possible....I do not know....but wanted him to start by getting the water in line.

Yeah, I was really dumping it in there. The tests results kept telling me I needed more. Verified the tests kits were good with the LFS. He got the same readings with his own kits.

I'm thinking I need to read up and understand precipitation. That was a suggestion from my LFS since I cannot seem to keep my readings up where they should be.
