Got my first of 3 ap700's for my 180. Was going to go with 2 but decided to get 3. Figures the one I ordered last showed up first. Other 2 will be here Monday.
First impressions after unboxing: Light feels and looks well built (my undereducated impression) Pucks are a lot smaller than I assumed they would be Hanging clips provided are horrible. For a $900 light you think they would provide better hanging or mounting option in the box. I feel considering those screws come in and out for maintenance I'd feel better with something dedicated to mount it from (a stud or eyebolt). Going to hang them off my light rack about 8" off the water with a chain so I can easily move them up or down to find the sweet spot for my tank. They are replacing 2 reefbreeder 32 v1 lights. Will tell you how I feel after they are all up.

After getting them all hooked I absolutely love them. Only things I can complain about are the included mounts and how bright the lunar cycle is. Probably could have gotten away with 2. Was easy to link them to the app and customize a program.

Ap700 newbie
Hey guys.
had a 73 bowfront fish only. been doing marine fish over 20 years NEVER EVER EVER HAD A REEF LOL So i guess this is my mid-life crisis project. I purchased a 120 gallon I have a big wet dry I built on 73 and my buddy gave me a really good big skimmer also. The lighting. Off the 73 I have a 48" coralife Current Orbit LED 1---------Coralife 48" dual bulb T5 1---------Coralife 36" Dual bulb T5 I purchased this VIPARSPECTRA Timer Control Series T300 300W LED Aquarium Light ON AMAZON WITHOUT SAYING TOO MUCH I HATED IT !!!!! BACK IN BOX ON WAY BACK SOOOOO the story is I started reading on here and from what I had read many people say the A-700 Is great unit. I am setting up the tank this weekend should have all the R/O water made and salted by then and everything else set up Can someone tell me if they think with the lighting from the 73 bow and this new AP 700 will I have adaquate lighting ??? Will it be considerd excellent lighting both amount and quality and good for corals to thrive. I did read a lot of people who had a tank my size 48x24 said they were using 2 A-700. They are somewhat costly and I have the other lighting so I figure may be ok. IF IT IS NOT ADEQUATE I DO NOT HAVE A ISSUE BUYING ANOTHER I much rather spend a lil more and have it great then spend all I have and its not Also can someone suggest the lighting set up and any other suggestions/tips to get this project ROCKIN !! Thanks in Advance so much NIcky

Figured I would drop this here, Dana Riddle reviewed the AP700 and has PAR charts, PUR charts, and spectral charts for the predefined settings. All tested over a 24 X 48 inch 120G tank. |

Thank you for the link. Interesting info. I have 2 ap700 over a 120 and feel it’s a much better fit than 1 fixture. I’m happy to see par and pur greatest on bluer settings. As an added note. I have a sps dominant tank and growth has been great and colors starting to pop since I’ve been watching stable low nutrients. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

To reply to your question Nicky. I would buy 2. That way you never have to worry about light plus it’s cleaner with less fixtures over the tank. If you want to save money buy t5 fixtures. Likely 2-2 bulb or equivalent to fill the gaps. With 2 fixtures I’ve raised the lights to around 14 inches to increase spread and less hotspot/focused areas.

That’s a great set up, 2 fixtures surely give you great performance. A great amount of overlap can be had with the right mounting height reducing shadowed areas on the acros. I feel that’s important for acros, they grow up and branch more so than other corals and that shades themselves. Overlapping the two lights will certainly help in this area. Not only directly but I find a great amount of light bounces around off the glass and substrate. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

New to this again!!!
Hello all! Recently set up a 150 gallon reef tank. After a nightmare of an original set up (recon tank leaked ALL water out in 8 hrs overnight) destroying 2 floors in our home. 1 1/2 months later and a NEW tank along with a new LFS and a trip to an attorney, things are underway. Our avatar is a current pic of our tank. Been having water tested weekly, have a quarantine tank set up. Added 100 lbs of live rock, few fish and some corals, anemone, some zoas and a hammer coral. We went all out on lighting (we think) with a kessil ap700, 2 ice cap gyre power heads. looking forward to all the helpful info on here.

How many ap700s should i run on a 300 6x3x2 tank? I was originally going to do 6 or 9 360we as i allrady have 6 of them, but then i thought of adding 2 or 3 ap700s down the middle and putting the 360wes along the outside of the tank.
Two questions how does the 360s and ap700 mix? If i just went ap700 would 4 cover a 6x3x2 tank? |

So I'm thinking of switching out my blue+ supplements for something else to run with my AP 700. Any suggestions?
I previously tried Coral+ and it gave out too much of a purple/pink hue and was too white. And the deeper blue from the kessil combined with the Coral+ gave a funky mix of a white/pink/purple hue. The Blue+ is just too blue and requires me to up the color temperature on the LED end and doesn't light things well on the edges. I was thinking the next logical choice would be Aqua Blue Special since it has less of a red peak and would be on the white end compared to the Blue+ I'm open to other suggestions though. Especially Giesmann bulbs as I've had no experience with them. My tank is 24x30x24 with two AP 700's running across the tank and the front and back could use some illumination. Due to the canopy, I can't place the lights front to back to alleviate that, so I turned to T5s to fill in those gaps in the front and back. |

I think the Blue Plus from ATI best matches the color of the AP700 and is what I have, 2 of them. Why not the Blue Plus, what did you not like? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
