Fresh water and paper towels, or buy new ones.

Seriously, water and a clean paper towel. There should be no need to break them down and clean them. Just use water, not windex, to clean the clear plastic lens covering. Use a dry one to wipe away any residual.

Why not windex? I use windex on my tank all the time. Just don't spray it on the tank. Spray it away from the tank onto a clean cloth, and wipe.

The first few times I used windex on the plastic it streaked like crazy and left a fog over the surface. Ever since I switched to water, the plastic remains crystal clear.

If you're able to use windex without the residue, not an issue. As you mentioned spray away from the tank obviously.

I used mixed water/vinegar to clean everything around or near my tanks. Once a year, I take apart the led boxes and wipe all build-up on the fans while running the vacuum cleaner hose.
