Chromis - Red spots

Need some help in identifying and treating some Chromis I’ve had in quarantine since 19/05/2019

I suspect it’s Uronema but not 100% since the spots are quite small. They never get any bigger than in pictures.

Some are also exhibiting small white round slightly raised bumps.

Treated with copper and did a round of prazipro (our equivalent since we can’t get in oz). Can’t get my hands on metroplex or focus here.

They are also In hypo salinity.

Still eating and swimming activity.

Do I risk putting them in display tank it if they make it through quarantine?

Thanks in advance.

If it is Uronema how quickly does it kill ?

Uronema. Number 1 killer of chromis. Put him and all the fish in same aquarium in QT under chloroquine phosphate. ASAP.

You will need a RX from a vet to get CP. can get from eBay but their purity is not 100% guaranteed. best bet would be to do metroplex at double the dose ASAP and treat for a min of 14 days just in case it is uronema. Chromies are notoriously susceptible to uronema so it's always best to treat for it as soon as possible. You also want to add metro with focus to their food to treat for it internally as well.
Not sure what else you can use instead if you can't get it. Where are you located?
Hopefully humblefish will chime in and have better suggestions.

Yes, that's CP.

Formalin would be another option if it is Uronema.
But to me it doesn't look entirely convincing as Uronema infected wounds usually expand and look bloody.
Parasitic crustacean could be another cause among quite a few other.

How are the fish behaving? Heavy breathing, scratching,...?
Are they still eating well?

In any case, I would not put them into the display or with other fish until they are absolutely clean for at least a month, better two or more. It's better to let them die in QT than infecting your DT and your established fish.
I just had a situation where some new fish came down with something I couldn't clearly identify and that was resistant to hyposalinity, CP, PraziPro, and antibiotics.

And where are you located.

PraziPro is Praziquantel and if you can't get it in a fish store or from Amazon you should be able to get it from a vet as it is a pretty common deworming medication for dogs and other pets.

The ingredients on the bottle says it contains praziquantel.

When they were in copper they ate fine. But when I dosed prazi for 48 hours they stopped eating.

After water change eating as normal.

That's not unusual. Some fish stop eating during PraziPro treatment.

No other abnormal behavior?

No other abnormal behaviour.

More info about the one that didn’t make it.

It didn’t look well from the start, got bullied and looked like the side of his mouth was injured. Was the first one to get the spot, was breathing heavily. Ate bit of food here and there.

When I medicated praziquantel it didn’t make it through the night.

Was not an enlarged red patch bleeding on the body, it had faded a bit.

Update on these guys. They are still alive but three out of four have these spots that are white are slightly raised on them. They flatten and turn pink after a while. They are in copper right now.

Is it ich ?

3 out of 4 aren’t eating due to copper I’m thinking, the copper seems to have helped the spots a bit. Instructions say leave it for 14 days but if they don’t eat then that doesn’t help.

Just did a water change will treat with copper again. Is it still affective if you have breaks in between?

Is it safe to take the healthy guy out and put in DT ?

Hard to see the white things from photo.

Have you treated them with metro or formalin?? Copper will sometimes suppress symptoms of uronema, but not fully eradicate it.

Trying to get a hold of some, it’s not readily available here in Australia

Formalin 37% should be available at scientific supply outlets.

+1 May also contain 14-15% Methanol which is OK.

It definitely should contain Methanol as stabilizer! Don't get pure formaldehyde as it can oxidize to formic acid.
Here some helpful information on Formalin:
Formaldehyde Fixatives
