Although there are some colourful SPS, I still have many brown turds amongst the colourful acros. And as you know SPS look more colourful from top.

Just some quick top down shots...tried my best to remove glare from the T5 tubes.

I love the colours the ATI T5/LED Powermodule is producing despite my repeated dumb mistakes; which is most likely the reason why some of the brownies refuse to colour up.

corals look great!
sahin, what wattage are your leds and what colour?
if just white, what percentage of full power do you run them at?
and have you ever tried running the light without the leds for any length of time? i guess I'm curious to know if the leds really change anything about how the corals colour up and/grow..

Awesome colours sahin. Love that red digitata I've been chasing that here in Australia! Can get digitata here just not in red I know how hard it is to try and remove glare from the T5's and it's not fun at all! excellent work though mate

Ha Sahin, I found you diary...

Just to a quick look in and around your tank. Beautiful pieces you have over theire.

A bare bottom is special, you won't find it here, in Belgium it's very rare.

This evening I'm gonna read it all

Gr Peter

Looks great Sahin, the red millie looks excellent

I can clearly see the green base of the Forest Fire digi, that we were discussing the other day.

Love the yellow/green tenuis at the top, that's my favourite by far, though

Dude! Top downs look sick!! I don't know what kind of colors that you're looking for, but that looks pretty darn good, seriously.

MP10's run on CONSTANT mode at around 85%. I dont use the other modes. So my corals are constantly blasted with flow. The areas where flow hits hardest, the corals grow thick and are so damn hard to clip frags.
Thanks for the info buddy
I'll try in the next few months to have a pic together,in front of your tank!
I hope you are beautiful because i'm really ugly

Top downs are insane!
And you are not happy with the colors?

The top downs look awesome I don't see what your talking about on the colors..

Question = how high above the surface are you running your fixture? My powermodule just seems to bleach my corals thinking of switching it out to 20k radiums soon..

Made my day seeing your tank shots Sahin Awesome colors developing on your acros mate, i love your scaping too
I feel the need to mention that both you and Bello are the sneakiest acro hiding bastards i've ever come across.
Your reef is going to be a stunning display when things grow out and anyone reading your journal who's starting out with SPS would do well to copy your methods my friend.
You help a large number of members out daily with great SPS advice and the pics you posted show you know what you're talking about. I'm really looking forward to following the progress of your reef Sahin as are many RC members i'm sure. Very cool stuff buddy

Note: Whilst i meant the above stuff i will point out that i do have a small black ball of intense acro jealousy developing in my guts now and at some point it may influence my posts here - just giving you a heads up you colorful acro keeping bastard..........

Nice pics Sahin. Your colors are superb. If you feel you have room for improvement I can't wait to see what it looks like when you feel it is colored up properly. Glad you were feeling well enough to share some pics.

There are a a few SPS which are still brown and a few that are halfway colourful because of me not taking care of the Alk level...for example, my Hot Pink Millepora is no longer as nice. The Red/Rose Millepora now looks better.

See above regarding the brown ones...I guess I really need to keep an eye on the parameters much better than I have been.

I am running my fixture 7.5inches above water line. My corals get around 400PAR even on the bottom of the tank.

Raise your fixture to at least 10-12inches AWL and see if it makes a difference.

Note this...T5 tube lengths and watts and watts/inch:
24watt T5 = 24" ACTUAL tube length = 22" So, 24/22 = 1.09watts per inch;
39watt T5 = 36" ACTUAL tube length = 34" So, 39/34 = 1.15watts per inch;
54watt T5 = 48" ACTUAL tube length = 45.8" So, 54/45.8 = 1.18watts per inch;
80watt T5 = 60" ACTUAL tube length = 57.6" So, 80/57.6 = 1.38watts per inch

The longer the T5 tube, the more watts is actually running through it and therefore it would be producing a little bit more PAR per unit area compared to a shorter length.

So I would definitely raise the fixture up a bit more than you have now, and see what happens over a few weeks. Corals should become less bleached. #

Also, if you have quick access to a PAR meter, use that to raise the ATI unit to a height where most of your SPS are getting around 300PAR. IF you dont get any improvement after that, then it perhaps isnt your lights...maybe you are stripping your water too much. Because most of your SPS must be able to handle at least 300PAR easily (exceptions are stuff like Lokani and other "deepwater" types).

Also, dont run all 8 tubes for no more than 6 hours.

Thanks. It means a lot coming from you mate. I had learned a fair bit over the years from many great reefkeepers on this forum...HOWEVER, I have learnt a lot more and refined so much of what I had already learnt, from you and your amazing and funny tank journal.

I have a few pieces, that IF I can get them to colour up, I think you may be jealous of...but until then they are just brown turds.

PS I am still waiting on a few scientific articles from you...but I'll keep it quiet for the moment...but will be demanding release of those articles soon...

Thanks buddy. I was hoping I would have bought a new DSLR, but due to one thing or another its not possible. But I will try and post some macro shots soon.

The Orange Passion just LOVES my tank. It always stays coloured up no matter what and I found its quite a hardy coral. Highly recommend this piece to anyone.

Thank you. There is definite room for improvement. I think in 3 months time hopefully I can get the corals looking a bit better and the remaining brown ones to colour up. Then I will be quite happy with the tank.

I know I've been ghost for a little while now, but I had to say that the wait was worth it. Sahin, your tank is gorgeous. I'm so happy things are going well, buddy.

Cheers! Hope you're feeling better as well, my friend.
