I agree! I love it! I have SPS, Clams, Softies, Leathers, and everything else under the sun and the Coralife Super Skimmer 65 does the trick. Everything is growing fast and looks even better. I definetly recommend it!

Yeah I always hear from a lot of my local reefers that "Oh man I wish I never had these mushrooms/xenia/etc that took over my tank" or "Why the heck did I get that brown acro". So I figured that I would focus on things that were really colorful and not get corals from the LFS. Sure it is more pricey, but I feel that I'm helping the hobby by spending money with corals that are 2nd+ generation. Plus they have a better survivability since they have been proven to be hardy in captivity.

If were just beginning, however, I would not go for things of this price. But I feel that I have enough experience and dedication to keep them.

Hey man tank looks GREAT im in the process of moving my 20l into a 29 AGA the main difference is im going to have a 24 gallon sump.

My one question is where did you get the filter sock on the end of you drain line and does it work well?

I gave up on the sock since I heard around that it traps too much before anything can hit the skimmer, so you would have to change it almost daily otherwise detritus would break down into phosphates and nitrates before the skimmer gets a chance to pull out any organic matter.

I just turkey baste out anything that accumulates down there during water changes.

Update!

Growth shot of my rainbow monti after another month:

No real additions since last time since I'm low on cash after all those tyree corals haha. I got a frag of my slimer from my dad's tank in here, but I am trying to get ahold of a tyree bali tricolor when one is available here.

My anemone split and the two clones are right next to eachother. The clowns each took residence in one but still bicker like a married couple haha.

I'm also looking for a clam sometime too but they haven't been real healthy/pretty lately.

Well I'm having issues with this reddish algae:

Anyone know how I can get rid of it? It grows onto corals and onto the sand, but I can't pull it off. I get very little film algae growing in my tank and the hair algae seems to be under better control, but I can't stop this junk.

Well I have to move the tank home this saturday so I consolidated my nanocube into the 29g. I'll take pics of everything once I finish setting it all up at home.

I'm going to try and get a frag of tyree bali tricolor soon so I'll post that too.

Updated and better sized FTS:

I think that I might end up buying a dosing pump soon so I can get away from the daily dosing of 2-part solution. Plus it can be used as a topoff device if I get the settings correct.

Find anything to rid that reddish brown algea yet?

I had a mexican turbo that use to mow it down, but it died, fell upside down behind some rock. I tried getting a second one but it wont touch the stuff so I'm looking for a new solution as well.

Thanks for the compliments Wiskey!

Jov: Yeah jeez I can't figure this stuff out. I managed to stop it's growth with aggressive skimming and keeping more chaeto in my fuge (which does not grow very well--using Melev's lighting, but the chaeto bits in my main tank grow way faster).

So the only way I can get it off is by scraping it, but I gave up on that a long time ago. I'm going to try an algae blenny soon since I need one for my dad's tank, but I'm still out of ideas.

just picking up on the chit chat ... reddish brown algae ... you mean cyano?!

Molybdenum helps actively fight against algae outbreaks such as cyano ...

Dark ... Your corals are doing fantastic but when are you gonna get some more LR

Nah its a reddish brown hair algae, I beat cyano awhile ago heh.

But I will probably not add anymore LR haha. Maybe if I find some more nice arching pieces, but I like having the open space for the Anthias.

I did more research on the mineral molybdenum ... and I would like to humbly correct myself. Molybdenum actually fuels hair and cyano algae ... here's a really good article on algae brotha! I apologize for any confusion ...

http://www.syngnathid.org/articles/greenHairAlgae.html

"Molybdenum is essential to beneficial organisms such as zooxanthellae, as well as nuisance algae such as green hair and Cyanobacteria."

Home depot sells precut glass squares (I think I used 8x10 squares for my 10 gal sump, but measure yours if you want to set one up). All I did was get some aquarium silicone and fix the squares in place (you have to do this all dry of course, and it takes a couple days for it to cure). The silicone is a little messy and the glass is sharp so you have to be careful if you go this route. The bubble trap, which is the 3 sheets of glass spaced 1 inch apart, was made by having the two outer pieces siliconed to the bottom, with the middle one siliconed 1 inch above the bottom. All the bubbles seem to diffuse by the time they reach the return chamber.
