Lol... no PLC or motor controls... that is true. With an engineer like Sanjay, I suppose I would expect to have seen more DIY controls and such. ACtuated ball-valves, makita/X-10, computer linkups, controllers, etc. An automatic water changing system maybe?

Sanjay maybe it's time to change the title of this thread since the tank is most definitely real now :-)

Unfortunately its because I am an engineer, you don't see too many fancy DIY controls (even though I have a PLC, and bunch of modules to go with it). When it comes to tanks I prefer the KISS principle.

There are too many things that can go wrong as it is.. why add more.

not to hijack or sidetrack this awesome thread, but a fellow in one of our neighboring reef clubs has built a DIY controller using PLC parts, etc. So far it is looking really nice. Here is the thread for anyone interested in a DIY controller

How about a 'whole tank pic'... and some of the 'behind the scenes'? We equipment junkies need our fix too...lol.

hehehehe, I never said I was asking for more pictures, only that I was surprised that no one else had ... which I guess was a passive-aggressive way of asking for more pictures

Ok, you picture junkies. Here are a few for you entertainment.

A week ago, John, Craig, Rik, and Chris from the DC area came to visit. Chris took several pictures, some of them are shown below. All credit for these pics goes to Chris.

Of course they came bearing gifts . The A. blochii that I posted earlier was one of them, and a bunch of nice frags.

Here is John adding the gifts to my overflow box for acclimatization.

As you can see that guys are truly giants in the hobby. Make me feel small.

Don't feel bad, everyone knows you're running the show! Tank looks great. Are you having good luck with the Vortech?

Both those vortech's are running fine for me. The only issue I had was them not holding on firmly to the 3/4" glass. This was resolved with some replacement magnets and they have worked great since.

I like them.

"replacement" magnets? How are they different? Eco-Tech recently posted in response to someone saying that the new ones are stronger, that they are the same. What do you think?

I don't know, I am just telling you what I had to do. Oh.. I also had to replacee the rubber disc that goes inside the tank with a hard disc that seems to fit inside the wet end. May be they found that do this would be good enough since it did reduce the overall thickness that the magnets had to penetrate and hence stornger magnets are no longer needed.

It would be best to ask Tim at ecotech, I don't want to be the source for any misinformation.

While these pics are not really my tank, but since they are the parents of my "frags", I guess I can post them here.

Here are some pics of the penn state tank, taken by Chris.

I'm speechless. That looks like one of those Italian tanks or maybe better. Is there any more info somewhere so can read up on that tank?
