It is almost all black A. percula. Orange face and a little orange on some of the fins.

...most people are talking about Ocellaris when they say Black Perc...

This is a gorgeous clown, anyway. I wouldn't call it a Black Percula, but it is certainly a fine Onyx specimen.

na i think black saddleback gets the black perc moniker most often

I think Black perc is one of the more confusing and pointless common names as it is used to describe sooooooo many clownfish by people who dont know what they are doing.

i have a LFS that is also a RC sponsor that cant seem to stop calling the black and white ocellaris that are tank raised from austrailia, Black perc Australian its so confusing for people who dont know better. and normally the store is very good with ID.

What you have is a black A. ocellaris, not an A. percula

Someone's wrong!

Unless I'm totally out to lunch!

Ultimately it doesn't matter THAT much to me...but still, I'd like to know for certain...

IDK what you paid but 24-50 per fish is normal price for Black and white ocellaris and that is definitely what you have....

Juvy A. ocellaris (black variant), and be careful with that Rhodactis indosinensis (hairy mushroom), they're known clownfish eaters.

Yes they are; especially smaller clowns. I once rescued a small clown from one - I literally had to pry it open with my fingers to let the fish swim free. I don't think the little clown knew even then how close to death it was.

Hell hath frozen over. If ever there was ever a time that someone could use the term "black perc" and actually have it be correct, this is it. Now this is really gonna cause confusion in the world of clownfish...there is such thing as a "black perc", we have been wrong all along. The only problem is, she (or he?) is probably one of only a few to be found in the ocean.

That is an absolutely gorgeous fish. I don't make it over to rareclownfish so maybe my questions are already discussed over there. I am assuming that it is the only one of the pair like that? WC? Breeding? If so, what do the babies generally look like?

Ahh, missed that response. Interesting. I wonder if it is just random or if there is a little pool somewhere out there of all black percs. $300 or so bucks doesn't really sound all that bad. I could only imagine what the price posted on LA Diver's Den would be for clowns that looked like that (and they would get snatched instantly).
