Brian's 270 Starphire

After a year and a half of planning and waiting for my house to sell, it's all starting to come together. We will be moving into our new house this weekend and with a new house comes a new tank.

Today I put my order in for a 270 gallon (72x36x24) 3 sided Starphire glass to be built by Miracles in Glass.

The tank designed as followed:
270 gallon (72x36x24) 3 sided Starphire glass

4 1/2� Eurobracing

Trimless

One internal overflow:
(2) 1 ½� bulkhead for drain and (1) 1� bulkhead for return

black vinyl back applied to exterior of back panel and black silicone.



The the shaded lines are bracing for the frame of the stand.

Here is my current equiment list that I have been gathering over the last year or so. 90% of it I have and I'm sure there will be more to add as I go along with the build.

With every new house there is a tank to move. Currently my 90 gal tank sits empty. Thanks to a few good friends, Scott (tanglovers) and Nick (mayran), I will not have to worry about my fish and corals until I'm moved in to the new house.

Here are some of my corals that I moved into Nick's 90 frag tank. I think there are over 90 different corals he has of mine. Thanks again!

Thats a lot of corals you had in your 90 Did you get a FTS before you took it down?

I actully didn't . With all that been going on I forgot. There would have been more to move but I had some issue with the 90 as of late and lost a few larger pieces.

David- I plan on a more open look. Maybe two larger islands and one small one. Nothing set in stone though, just have to play aroud with it an see.

Hey Joe- once I get everything back I'll let you know.

Sorry for the lack of update, but it been a busy weekend moving in. Not much to update, I did get some of the building materials for the stand, unpacked most the equipment, reset up the 90 gal to hold my corals and fish until the build is done, and set up my RO/DI.

Here are some pic of the RO/DI setup.

I ran the waste line into the drain line for my humidifier on my furnace and water heater. The black tape on the waste line is the measurement the got me pass the 90 the ran back into the humidifier.



Here it is finished with the water heat line back in.



Next was to hook up the saddle tap for the RO/DI feed.





and last was to run the effluent line to the next room under the stairs were the water will be stored.

And this is what I got done tonight. A little fishing in the backyard with the daughter.

cool thanks-Brian, I am going to discourage you from using the saddle tap even though I am using one. Solder in a T fitting instead and reduce down to your 1/4"line. Saddle taps eventually leak or get gumbed up-I need to change mine out

nice equipment and fishing with baby girl is priceless =)

Looking good Brian. I think your cat is digging your new fish equipment. That is one fat cat by the way. Great pics of you and your daughter fishing. I can't wait until my daughter is old enough to do this find of stuff.

Thanks Joe- My buddy that a plumber said the same. He coming in a month to solder in a tee along with a few other things. Kinda a quick fit for now.

Hmmm, I'd never heard of them clogging before - good info Joe, thanks! It honestly would explain an RO/DI issue I had in my last house regarding the incoming psi continuosly (albeit, very slowly) dropping even after changing all canisters/membrane... I moved, so I forgot about it

Thanks Austin. I do have the pair still, there at Scott's house right now. There will be many more angels once things get going.

I was able to get the top and the bottom of the tank stand framed today. Here's what it they look like. The top is sitting to the bottom until I get a hand to add the uprights.



Here is about were the tank will sit.



I will is painting the stand with marine paint once the upright are in. I'll also be adding 1/2" plywood to the bottom and 3/4" to the top.

The face of the stand will be removable. As of now I plan to have a 6"-8" lip around the stand that will be integrated into the face. The lip will be topped with cut stone or tile to match the floor.

good-good- yeah my psi is fluctuating because of my saddle tap Austin- we live and learn (hopefully =) I don't get to move so I will be fixing mine-lol

Brian, I'd suggest for you to fill the bottom of your stand a bit. Maybe even put the 2x4 sideways. It may not matter for you as I do not know your foundation, but since I have raised hardwood floors, I get an small scho from the vibration of the pumps.

Ive used saddle valves for years with no problem.

However, something that is VERY important, and will prevent most, if not all issues, its proper installation.

Never mount a saddle pointing down. This will allow any sediment in the bottom of the pipes (i.e. copper) to make their way into your filter, and even clog the valve.

Always mount parallel with the pipe. It should look like a "T" from below. This will prevent any contaminants from clogging your valve.

You will need to seal that one up and get a new one though, obviously.
