Burgess Buttefly Fish question

Hi all~

I bought burgess butterflyfish today.

But I found that this fish looked a little different especially the body color.

I think the reason body color is different is because my butterfly is juv? or this color is natual?

I hope my burgess will get along to other butterflys in my tank

There is a local variation of burgess that has a yellow tint to the body, maybe this is what you have. I don't remember the location of this variation.

Where was your collected, do you know?

Do Burgess and Mitratus ever hybrid? Fishbase makes it seem like they don't overlap, but they have no maps. BTW, those are some great looking fish.

Rare Angels is right. There is a yellow variant. It's discussed in Scott Michael's Angels and Butterflies book.

That the case, there are variations as other have said in the amount of yellow in a burgess.

Miraitus butterflies are notorious for being ill tempered. Good luck with them getting along, i have read unpleasant stories about mixing miriatus with anything remotely similar to them, but you seem to have a declevius too, so it might not be an issue.

The butterflies from the tinker complex do not seem to have a tendency to eat corals like other butterflies. I have a burgess in my SPS only tank and it does not bother my corals, just ate all the aiptasia.

The reason I have a burgees is because it was eating corals like crazy in someone else's tank.

Hi Rare Angels~

She (I think it's she) is from Indonesia deep sea.

I think I should collect Howaiian burgess too.

Hi sly fox

Yes my butterflies pick the SPS polyp very often.

But It is not enough to kill SPS.

My SPS are still growing and coloration is not bad.

If you hate them to bother SPS, I think you should not have them

Thanks
