I would look into reworking that stand..... the legs should be between the top rim and the base, not behind them.... If you wanted to you could also do the top and the legs with 2X6's and get rid of the center brace all together....

The way you have it now the weight of everything is being placed on the glue and screws connecting the legs and the top rim, you want the load to be dispersed from the top plate, down the legs to the base...

You should have 2 boards glued (titebond III) and screwed together to make a "L" to go between the top and bottom plate and then you put a nailing board behind them also glued and screwed to make sure it all stays straight. the nailing board in back should be shorter than the distance to the top and bottom plate though so it cant put more stress on a corner of the tank by not letting it sit perfectly flat.

This is before I put the cross braces into my tank but you can see the boards to make the "L" and the nailing board behind it that is slightly shorter than the distance between the top and the base...

You can also look into the DIY section for rocket engineers plans to get a feel for the "L" and nailing strips...

Im sure youre going to really enjoy the extra 2' of tank though.

Not a problem, I would just have hated to see something happen to it once it was up and full...

Wish I saved the ad, it was lucky but time consuming. Hauling it and fixing it up, even after all my work you can still see the "used" marks.

$50 was for the tank only right Wiz. I got a used 125 with stand and light for $150 so I can see someone getting one for even cheaper. You just have to be looking on the right site at the right time. lol

Yes sir, funny though, everything else costs more than the tank, even the fish! Kinda reminds me of my uncle putting rims worth more than his car but yep i browsed craigslist everyday to get that and many other bargains.
