t8 how much

i have a 16.6 gallon tank, would 6*18w t8 lightening (2actinic and two 10000k) be enough for sps and lps corals?

t8? unless I am missing something those only come in Normal output, and no, they probably wouldn't be enough for SPS. Probably enough for soft corals and some lps simply based on the fact that you will have 6 of them.

I would recommend a 150/250 watt metal halide or possibly t5's. What are the dimensions of the tank?

Why not just use a 96w powerquad? For that matter you could fit a pair of them over it. Or you could use 4 24w T5 with parabolic reflectors and you would have MORE than enough lighting. With the T8s most of the light from the back side of the bulbs will be lost, so you really only get about half or less of the available light into the aquarium.

Of course most people will just tell you to get a 150w metal halide. Then again, some of those same people will likely mistake your measurements for inches instead of centimeters and think you are talking about a 272 gallon aquarium.

1.) A dual 96w retro is going to cost more than a single 150 or 250 watt metal halide and won't grow SPS as well.

2.) Would you mind telling me how you would fit 2 96w powerquads over a tank with the basic dimensions (And I AM being conservative) of roughly 24"x12"x14"? And you pointed out that others may get the measurements screwed up..... riiiiiiiiight

Think you could go ahead and buy yourself a birthday present early and start off with the awesomness?

Seriously, if you are going to go that route, it's only a month, I think everything would pretty much be ok as long as you put the most light demanding of the corals towards the top. If you could go ahead and get the mh though, everything would be just peachy.

250!!!

You will only need the one lamp. Supplement if you want to, but you wont have to. See my thread for pics of my tank with the 250.

My main concern with that lamp is the heet and that it may be overkill for a 16gal?

You can get buy with the t8 bulbs until then. I kept some stonies under 3 65k t12's for 6 months in a 55.
