SPS and Angels?
Just wondering what angels people are keeping with their SPS. I'd like to take a couple of FO tanks down and add my Emperor and Mac to my SPS tank.
Please tell me what angels you have (un)-successfully kept in SPS tanks. |

I have a red sea regal and he DOES nip a the tips of some millis here and there. Not enough to make any damage at all, but he still does it.
PM John (copps) and ask him. He has several types f angels in his SPS dedicated tank. I am sure he would be able to tell you from a more broader field of experience.

This fella has just about reached adult colors, needs to grow a few more stripes. Got him as a juvenile. No SPS nipping at all. Gorgonians and purple mushrooms are extinct, and he nipped a little at an open brain. Favia, fungia, yellow leather and stupid GSP are all untouched. Terrific fish--makes an amazing knocking/grunting sound when angry--you can hear it in the next room! John

Thanks for the responses so far. The Emperor seems to be a well behaved angel in everyone's tank. I know a few others on here have one in their tank. The Mac is what makes me nervous. I never see them in a reef tank.
Dgasmd- Thanks! I will PM copps about them. Hopefully he has experience with a Mac. |

You could also try Swallowtail, Lamarck's or Watanabe angels. They are all supposed to be OK as they are planktivores.

Right now I have a Chrysurus and a Red Sea Regal in my 110 with mixed corals. The Chrysurus will nip open brains, but leaves everything else alone. The Regal will occasionally take a little swipe at my polyps, but other than that they are good.

You are taking a chance with any Angels. I have a large Blue Face, Chysurus, and a Regal. No zoo's can go in or soft fleshy corals. They will leave my hammers alone so far, but that too could change. Just know going in that you may have to customize your coral list to fit your fish grouping.
Just put a crosshatch trigger in this weekend, will see what his tastes are soon. Good luck |
