That's awesome. I had a feeling it might be a h. magnifica,
I got 400w 14k MH lighting. Is that enough? How long would I need it on? |

That is enough light. I would have it on 10 hours with actinics on 1 hour before and after.
They like a lot of indirect current and/or a wavebox type action as well.

Cool, I got a Tunze 6100 with a single controller, plus my return. That should be enough for my 40x18x18.

I got it in Philippines as I live there.
Btw guys, I have it mixed with mushrooms, tree corals, and zoos. Do I need to remove them? I'm thinking of doing a h.magnifica and clam setup only, what you guys think? |

I think in the long run it would be preferable to remove the mushrooms, etc. The clam would be fine with it, since it is a mollusc and not cnidaria. Do you find that in the Philippines healthy H. mags are often available? Can you collect your own there from the waters in the area? I would assume that since they have so much less distance to be transported, the ones there are in better shape than many of the ones that come in to lfs here. How large across is that anemone?

Since you live so close to where the anemone was collected I think many of us here would be interested in hearing about how well your anemone fares in captivity. Here in north america we have a terrible time getting healthy specimens of H. Magnifica and I would certainly be interested in hearing how well it adjusts to your tank over the next few months.

forgive me but your tank looks very young, water params may be an issue if this is the case.

Thanks guys,
The tank is 7 months old. I got the anem two weeks ago and it's doing really well. My tank is understocked with a deltec AP600 skimmer. And the parameters are good. Do I really need my 400W 14k MH to be on 10 hours over this thing? Or will more feedings and less photoperiod suffice? Anemones here in Philippines do very well, probably coz they don't travel much and are collected quite well. It's amazingly cheap too. I got my one for $10 USD. I've kept BTAs and LTAs before, and they all did good. You can collect your own corals, but since I'm a not a diver yet, I don't. I have many suppliers and they can pretty much get me anything I want. I will move the shrooms and zoos and tree corals soon. I don't have much. The anem is about 15" across when fully expanded I guess. |
