new camera = better pics

The wife and some family members pitched in and got me a new camera for x-mas, its a Cannon powershot SD790 IS
(thank you all!)
So this is still a point and shoot, but there are lots of settings to play with the color, which can make some colors on the corals misleading, so I tried to capture the natural color I see when I look at the corals, the first two pics of the same coral will show you what im talking about, small setting changes can make drastic difference in color.

This one being more true to the eye

Full lighting

actinic only

PLEASE DONT USE GREAT STUFF (THE YELLOW STUFF) IN YOUR TANK........USE POND FOAM (THE BLACK STUFF).. I BEG YOU!

Great stuff====$5 a can
24-48 hour cure
Epoxy to cover it====little as $5 for small projects or up to $100+ for larger projects
and another 24-48 hour cure
I hope you covered it well cuz if you didnt it will start to break down in a few months
sand is another added cost to cover up the yellow.

Pond foams====$9-$15 a can
24-48 hour cure
DONE! You can cover it with sand if you want to (YOU DONT HAVE TO) though but thats added cost again

I just ordered the cannon sd1100 2 minutes before logging onto this site. I hope it takes as good of pictures as your new camera does.

I always struggled getting the true color of the corals to show up on the pics, especially the actinics too.

Im no photographer, so I don't even really know what I was doing, I just play with the settings and see how the pic turns out, I probably took 200 to get the 20 nice shots you see. And my friend Mike took some and showed a few things it does. But then again this camera is new to me, once I get it down I won't waste as much film.

thankx for the complements everybody.

Great pics! I have the A710 IS, and bought an underwater housing for it to get some close-ups. Were yours taken with a housing, or a light box, or just through the glass?

Some through the glass, and some are top down shots, but no housing (they want like $150 just for the water proof case!)

Tripod for the shots I could.

Yeah, the case was $250, but I used it scuba diving too, and needed something rated to 100'+. It makes the colors pop even brighter not having to deal with the glass or surface...it is hard to tell with yours though!! Great pics for through the glass and top down!

the underwater housing for my camera costs over 2 grand :-(

Anyone here using the Olympus 1030SW? I heard those take pretty decent underwater pics and are under $300 now

ouch, I bet it is a lot fancier than mine though...pics turned OK, it is fairly basic, and pics had a blue hue when below about 30'. Works like a charm for the tank though!
